Totally agree.
Johnson just isn't at the required level. He was out of his depth against Newcastle, was at fault for their winner and was poor in possession.
My view on Johnson is not just based on Saturday. I remember a game earlier on this season, in fact I think it was in the friendly against Bournemouth where he got murdered everytime Bournemouth went on the attack. He got shipped off before halftime and replaced by Fredericks.
I do feel sorry for him that he isn't getting opportunities in his natural right back position, but let's be clear, he is way down the pecking order and is streets behind Coufal and not as good as Fredericks.
A loan move i the Championship would be best for Johnson. He needs game time in his favoured position. He won't get that at West Ham.
I would think that Moyes will go with Cufal and Fredericks next season on the right, but he must know that he needs to bring in a natural left back to compete with Cresswell.

In what way is posting a thread with an opinion about a current player on a West Ham forum seeking attention? By that logic, all threads posted on this forum are "attention seeking".
I hate to break it you you On The Ball but I'm not Faux Bare, so wind your neck in son.

What angle do you think you'll take for your next attention-seeking thread, Faux?

Re: Ben Johnson

How has you conclude that Johnson has overtaken Fredericks? Fredericks has been out injured and is clearly Coufal's understudy on the right hand side while Johnson plugs a hole at LWB.
I would not be surprised if Moyes bombs both Fredericks and Johnson out in the summer and gets in a new right back, as both are not good enough to start. That said, I think Fredericks is a handy squad player on the right hand side so might be retained.
Johnson is simply not good enough. To not be able to pass to a team mate, or make sensible decisions at his age shows there is no hope for him at this level. He will end up in the lower leagues like so many of our previous prospects.

They need to decide his best position and let him stick it at.
I’d say he’s a right back so should be back up to the 29 year old Coufal, play him as a sub or in the early stage cup games.
Shift Fredericks who it seems he’s overtaken anyway.
No need to write the kid off just yet.

Ernie - just one or two to be fair, most are sticking up for him.
Not everyone has to rate our players though.

exile I haven't said everyone of his first 40 appearances were shit, but during that time many said he had shit games. Interpret that how you like. You think Fredericks is a good player, laughable. The same with Masuaku. Both those players have had more poor games than Johnson. He'll come good.

Re: Ben Johnson

hes not improving however thats mainly down to him being chucked into the wrong position, in a stop gap role- think he'll get better when he's locked a role down however im not sure that will happen. He did clear a chance off the line and we are always at risk from ( what was an awesome ) cross to the back stick in a three- usually its cresswell in no mans land or jumping like he doesnt really want to ..

I said a while back he wasn't good enough and got stick for it.
Whilst he's still young he can improve, but he's no where near good enough for us at the moment.

Re: Ben Johnson

I think his best performaces have come from full back rather than wing back.
Usefull in a flat back 4 but not so handy in a back 5.

Struggled again on saturday, i think he is a player and has a future here but not at LWB for us. Maybe at RWB......but may need a loan next season

Sorry mate, but that shows how out of touch you are. The only person who said that was Vexed.

Well said. We are better sticking and giving him a chance that going out and signing a Zabeleta type. Fullbacks in todays game need to be quick and able to get up and down the pitch so older end of career types are not the answer for us.
A season at GOOD championship club will do him the world of good and will tell us where his future lies.

Re: Ben Johnson

Issue yesterday was Johnson's refusal in the first half as a wing back to move his starting position 10 yards ahead of where he was and pretty much refuse to travel with the ball forward when he received it. Just kept knocking it back to ogbonna. Obviously Masuaku would've carried the ball and succeeded at least 50% of the time, as we've witnessed. That changes a defenders mindset and therefore changes the game.

I didn't even say Masuako was good or Johnson was bad. I just said as a team we've been more effective with a 5 with Masuako in the side
But I shouldn't let results get in the way of me thinking that...
